The oldest person on this planet was the 256-year old Li Ching Yuen. This is not a fictional tale or a myth, but a true story. One 1930 article in New York Times says that a professor of the Chengdu University, Wu Chung-chieh, has found Imperial Chinese government records dating from 1827 where Li Ching-Yuen was congratulated on his 150th birthday.
He found other documents form 1877 congratulating Li Ching-Yuen on his 200th birthday. A New York Times correspondent wrote in 1928 that many old men in the neighborhood of Li Ching-Yuen have claimed that their grandfathers knew this old man when they were boys.

This old man is said to start his herbalist career when he was 10 years old when he collected goji berry, lingzhi, he shoo wu, gotu kola, wild ginseng, and rice wine. At the age of 71, in 1749, Li Ching Yuen become a teacher of martial arts in the Chinese armies. It is said that people from his community loved him and that he has married 23 times and had more than 200 children.
Reportedly, he could read and write as a child, and by the time he was 10 he had visited Shansi, Kansu, Siam, Tibet, Manchuria, and Annam to collect herbs. He continued doing this for the first 100 years of his life. Then, he stared selling herbs like goji berry, gotu kola, lingzhi, shou wu, and wild ginseng, collected by other people. He continued living on his diet consisted of these herbs and rice wine.
He Wasn’t the Only One
As one of Li Ching Yuen’s disciples claimed, he had once met with a 500-year old man. This man taught him dietary recommendations and Qigong exercises to prolong his lifespan to an extreme level.
When Li Ching Yuen was dying, he stated that he has managed to do everything that he had to do in this world. Is it possible that his last words lead to the secret of a long and successful life? In the West, people are usually brought up to believe that they must “beat” aging.
His Secret to Long Health
Li Ching Yuen told the warlord, Wu Pei-fu, that the secret to his longevity is to keep a quiet heart, to sleep like a dog, to walk sprightly like a pigeon, and to sit like a tortoise.
He stated that his piece of mind and inward calmness, in a combination with breathing exercises was actually the secret to his extremely long life. Of course that his diet also contributed to his longevity, but he attributed it to his state of mind.
Why Is This So Hard To Believe?
The average lifespan of Western people is between 70 and 85 years, so the notion that someone has lived more than 100 years is odd enough, while over 200 years is really suspicious. So, how come we don’t believe that a person can live that long?
Some people have the luck to live far from polluted areas, without the stress of the debt and the 9 to 5 lifestyle, and regularly doing exercise. They don’t consume flour. Their diet is very different from that of the standard American.
They don’t consume sugary desserts, fatty meats, genetically modified foods, superfoods which act like steroids for our immune system and organs.
They practice meditation and breathing techniques in their free time, which has shown to improve the physical, mental and emotional health. They get proper sleep, keep things simple, and spend as much time as possible in nature under the sun. Our relaxing vacations in the sun are surely boosting our energy, so a lifetime doing the same thing in the mountains, combined with an ideal physical, mental, and spiritual well-being will undoubtedly increase our lifespan at least up to 100 years.
Treat your body right and see how long you will live!
